How to Keep Your Lawn Green During Utah’s Drought

Utah is a dry desert state, we heavily rely on winter snowfall for water during our hot summers. This past winter we received record low snowfall that has resulted in a statewide drought this summer. We can help you keep your lawn green and lush while still adhering to state regulations!

The intense dry heat we have during Utah summers causes water to dry up quickly on your lawn. You tend to water more during the summer months than you did in the cooler spring months to make up for the evaporating water. Due to the lack of snowfall this winter Utah has declared a statewide drought this summer and is implementing lawn watering restrictions. They are recommending low use watering, this means watering early in the morning or late at night, watering in cycles instead of all of your sprinklers at once for 15-30 minute cycles with a 30-45 minute break in between, and only watering up to 2 days per week.

Here are some tips to help keep your lawn green: Water late at night or early morning, this will give the water more time to get into the roots of your lawn before the heat evaporates it. Know your local water restrictions, these can be found on your city’s website. If a storm is coming avoid having automatic sprinklers turn on and allow the rain water to water your lawn. Use a water retaining product, like our Hydra Guard.

Hydra Guard helps the roots of your lawn retain water for longer! This product attracts and holds soil moisture and vapor to the roots of your grass. It helps improve your turf health, boosts seed germination, and can reduce watering by up to 50%! This will help keep your lawn looking lush all while adhering to local drought guidelines and restrictions and saving on your water bill!
