Your local Lawn Doctor team in Vineyard

Vineyard is the newest city we serve, and almost everything about the lawns here follows from that. Most of them went in as sod within the last few years, on lots that were graded flat with heavy equipment, over clay. A two or three year old lawn has shallow roots and thin seams, and it needs a different first season than a lawn that has been in place since the 1970s in Orem. Treated right in those first few years, a Vineyard lawn ends up thicker and cheaper to water than one that was left to figure it out.

The other thing that shapes Vineyard is the lake. The city sits against Utah Lake and the wetlands along the shore, which is why mosquitoes are the pest call we get most from here by a wide margin. Lawns water on culinary water, so irrigation shows up on the city bill, and clay soil means how you water matters more than how much. Vineyard is served on our Orem route, about 25 minutes from our Spanish Fork shop.

Lawn care

Lawn care in Vineyard: what we do and when

The Lawn Maintainer program is six visits and seven services from mid March to early November, five to seven weeks apart, timed to conditions rather than a fixed calendar. Here is what that looks like on a young Vineyard lawn.

New sod is a different job than an old lawn

Most Vineyard lawns went in as sod in the last few years, and the first two or three seasons decide what the lawn becomes. Fresh sod roots shallow because it was watered light and often to get established, and it stays shallow until the watering changes. Our first season in a new Vineyard yard is about feeding for root depth rather than top growth, holding weeds out of the thin spots along seams and edges, and getting the watering moved to deep and twice a week.

Clay underneath, and water that runs instead of soaking

Vineyard soil is clay based. Clay holds water well once it is wet, but it takes it slowly, so a long single run of the sprinklers puts half the water down the driveway and the rest in the top inch. Cycle and soak is the fix: two or three shorter runs an hour apart instead of one long one. Hydra-Guard on the May or June visit helps the water that does land get into the root zone instead of sitting on top.

Pre-emergent on the valley calendar

Crabgrass germinates in Vineyard in the last week of March through the second week of April, the same as Orem and Provo. The first barrier goes down in that window and a second in May. New subdivisions have a lot of new concrete, and the hot strips along driveways, sidewalks and park strips are where crabgrass shows up first in a young lawn.

Aeration once the sod is rooted

A lawn in its first season should not be aerated; the sod is still knitting in and the plugs tear it. After a full season in the ground, fall core aeration from late August to mid October breaks up the compaction left from grading and construction and gets air and water into the clay. On a new lawn this is the treatment that makes the difference between a lawn that thins out in its fourth summer and one that does not.

Culinary water means every gallon is on the bill

Vineyard lawns water on culinary water, so the irrigation shows up on the city bill the same way it does in Orem. The cheapest water is the water that soaks in, which is why we push cycle and soak, early morning runs, and three to three and a half inch mowing height to shade the soil. A lawn that is fed right needs less water than a hungry one, not more.

Sprinkler checks on new systems

New does not mean dialed in. Heads set too low in fresh sod, a head tilted by settling soil, or a coverage gap between zones shows up as a dry crescent or a brown stripe that looks like a lawn problem and is not. Our technicians flag sprinkler issues when they see them, and a sprinkler check is a separate service if you want the whole system walked.

Starting mid-season is fine; we begin at whatever round the calendar is on and prorate. Prepaying the season saves 5 percent and locks your rate for the year.

Pest control

Pest control and mosquito service in Vineyard

Mosquitoes are the number one call we get from Vineyard, and the lake is the reason. Our exterior pest program handles the rest of what comes with a Utah County summer, treated from the outside so nothing is sprayed inside your home.

Mosquitoes, and why Vineyard gets the worst of them

Vineyard sits right against Utah Lake and the wetlands along the shore, and that is breeding habitat at a scale no yard treatment can touch. What a treatment can do is your own property: mosquitoes spend the day resting in shaded foliage, under deck boards, in tall grass and in dense shrubs, and that is what we treat. Our mosquito service is six visits through the season rather than a one-time spray, because the adults that fly in from the lake keep replacing the ones that are gone. Lawn Maintainer customers get a discounted rate on it.

Standing water on your own lot

Before anything gets sprayed, the water goes. Mosquitoes breed in anything that holds water for a week: saucers under pots, a tipped wheelbarrow, clogged gutters, a low spot in a new yard that never drained right, a dog bowl, the tray under a trampoline anchor. On a new build, construction debris and low spots in fresh grading are the usual suspects. We will point out what we find while we are there.

Wasps in new eaves

New construction is no protection from paper wasps. They start nests under eaves, in soffit gaps, in patio covers and on play structures in May, and yellowjackets peak in August. Every program visit includes knocking down accessible nests around the house.

Ants, earwigs and spiders through the season

The exterior program runs six visits from March through November and moves with the calendar: ants trailing in from sidewalk cracks in spring, earwigs out of the mulch beds after every watering in summer, spiders and boxelder bugs moving toward the house in September and October. New mulch beds right against the foundation are the most common reason earwigs get inside, and pulling the mulch back a few inches from the siding helps more than another spray.

What we do not treat

Rodents, termites and bed bugs. If that is what you have, we will tell you who to call.

Lawn Maintainer customers get a discounted rate on pest control and mosquito service, and prepaying the year saves 5 percent. If a covered pest comes back between visits, we re-treat at no charge.

Why Lawn Doctor

Why Vineyard homeowners choose Lawn Doctor

Vineyard has no shortage of lawn and pest companies knocking on new-construction doors. Here is what is different about ours.

Built for new lawns

A two-year-old lawn is not a small version of a twenty-year-old one, and treating it like one is how it ends up thin by year four. We read new sod for what it is, and we will tell you when a lawn needs nothing but water and time rather than selling you a renovation.

On the Orem route, 25 minutes from the shop

Vineyard rides the Orem route, out of our Spanish Fork shop. One branch, one phone number a person answers. A re-treat under the guarantee or a look at a strange patch happens on the next route through, not in two weeks.

No contracts, exact pricing

We measure your lawn from aerial imagery and quote an exact per-service price before the first visit, usually the same day. Pay per visit or prepay and save 5 percent. Pause or cancel any time.

Utah licensed, guaranteed

Utah Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator License 4000-18448, and more than 160 five-star Google reviews across Utah County. If a treatment does not do what it should, we come back and re-treat at no charge.

We also serve Orem, Provo and Springville, so if you are comparing notes with a neighbor across the city line, we are probably already on that street.

Questions

Vineyard FAQs

Do you serve all of Vineyard?

Yes, ZIP code 84059, the whole city from the lakeshore to the Orem line. Vineyard is served on our Orem route, and we serve neighboring Orem (84057, 84058, 84097) and Provo (84601, 84604, 84606) as well.

How much does lawn care cost in Vineyard?

Pricing is by measured lawn size, not by guess. Our Lawn Maintainer program starts at $67 per service for lawns under 3,000 square feet, and most residential lawns run $67 to $117 per service. Vineyard has a mix of small lots and larger ones, so where you land in that range depends on your yard. Prepaying the season saves 5 percent. We measure from aerial imagery and send the exact price before the first visit.

My sod is only a year or two old. Do I need a lawn program yet?

Yes, and a young lawn is the best time to start. New sod is thin at the seams and has shallow roots, which is exactly what weeds take advantage of in the first two springs. Starting with a pre-emergent and a feeding schedule built for root depth is far cheaper than fixing a thin lawn in year four. What we will not do on a first-season lawn is aerate it or push heavy top growth.

When can I aerate a new sod lawn?

After it has been in the ground a full season. Aerating sod that is still knitting in tears it up. Once it is rooted, the best window here is late August to mid October, and on a new build it is worth doing because the lot was graded with heavy equipment and the clay under the sod is compacted.

Why are mosquitoes so bad in Vineyard?

Utah Lake and the wetlands along the shore are mosquito breeding habitat, and Vineyard is directly against them. No yard treatment stops mosquitoes from flying in. What a yard service does is treat the shaded foliage, deck undersides and dense plantings where they rest during the day, which is what makes a yard usable in the evening. Clearing standing water on your own lot matters just as much as the treatment does.

Is mosquito control part of the lawn program?

No, it is a separate service. One spray in July does not hold, so it runs six visits through the season. Lawn Maintainer customers get a discounted rate on mosquito and pest services, and prepaying saves 5 percent.

Do you do sprinkler blowouts in Vineyard?

Yes. Blowouts on the valley floor run mid to late October, before the first hard freeze. We connect a compressor, clear each zone through the heads, and set the backflow valves for winter. Most residential systems take under 30 minutes.

Is the quote free, and do I have to sign a contract?

The quote is free and there is no contract. We measure your lawn, send an exact per-service price, and you pay per visit or prepay the season for 5 percent off. Pause or cancel any time.

What if weeds or bugs come back after a treatment?

Call or text us and we come back and re-treat at no charge. That is the guarantee, and it is the reason we would rather fix a problem on the next route through Vineyard than argue about it.
